Time to Reconnect to Your Joy?

Joining the Dots…

A few weeks ago, I caught up with a close friend. We had a great conversation and then she asked if I had coached tennis before. I said yes a bit, however that moment will be etched in my mind for a long time.

You see, when I moved many years ago, I left the majority of my tennis life behind. It was time to reinvent myself and not just be know as the tennis player or coach. I was moving in to a new world of teaching and education.

However over time, little nudges kept occurring . From the wife and husband couple who were in a workshop I facilitated to friends asking if I could coach their children. I politely declined the majority of requests as the tennis world was in the past (or so I thought). One day though I decided to accept the invitation to hit and had lots of fun (there were strict instructions though – it was just for fun🙂 ). Then recently, I was asked to coach again and something just seemed right, so I accepted.

Reconnecting to My Joy…

Little by little things kept flowing and then last week on my grandmas’ birthday, I coached a group of young people for the first time and time just stopped. I felt like I had reconnected with a long lost love. It was so much fun – just like I remember as a kid myself. Now more than ever I know tennis is something I can do, it is not who I am though (and that is something I am passionate about) and I can bring the wisdom I have outside of the sport with me 🎾

A huge thank you to my family for their support (especially the handyman in the family who helped make the basket so versatile and cater for the different coloured balls – see pic), my friends who kept asking and waited patiently until I was ready and also the beautiful humans who have supported my healing over the past few years (as being a professional athlete is not what is portrayed, however that is for another day). I am forever grateful to you all 💜🙏

And yes I have coached before, my parents’ created a tennis academy in the Hunter Valley that I was lucky to grow up at and coached many people there. And later on took a few state and national teams away, as you can see in the images below…
