Recently someone asked me what a Holon actually was in relation to The Coach’s Business Operations Toolkit.
And honestly? It’s one of my favourite questions to answer as it took me a while to settle on the name.
So… What Is a Holon?
The term was coined by philosopher Arthur Koestler in 1967 to describe something that is simultaneously a whole in itself and a part of a larger whole.
Think of it like this: your heart is a complete, functioning system – and it’s also one essential part of your body’s larger system. Neither view is wrong. Both are true at once.
✨ A holon is a whole system made up of smaller connected systems – and those smaller systems are holons too.
Which is exactly what a thriving coaching business really is.
