Ready to Take on the Dare of BEing Yourself?
The past couple of months have been challenging for me personally. I am not going to go in to the details, however something I had committed two years working towards changed and subsequently I have chosen not to do it.
Yes, it has been hard to sit with my interpretation of what was happening and what ended up happening, however I made a promise to be myself a while back and will continue honour that.
When was the last time you believed in yourself enough to follow your own dreams? What did that feel like? Is it time to rekindle that feeling?
Are you ready to take on the dare to be yourself?
What is a Dare?
There are many definitions to a dare –
- “have the courage to do something.” ~ Google
- “to have the necessary courage or boldness for something” ~ Dictionary.com
- “to be sufficiently courageous to” ~ Merriam-Webster
- “Have the courage to do something”. ~ Oxford Living Dictionaries
- “to be brave enough to do something difficult or dangerous” ~ Cambridge Dictionary
- “To be courageous or bold enough to do or try something” ~ The Free Dictionary
Is there anything you would add to these dare definitions?
What is Authentic?
Some of the definitions on authentic include –
- “true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character” and “not false or imitation” ~ Merriam-Webster
- “of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine.” ~ Google and Oxford Living Dictionaries
- “representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified” ~ Dictionary.com
- “If something is authentic, it is real, true, or what people say it is” ~ Cambridge Dictionary
Taking on the Dare of BEing Yourself
So now you have read through the definitions of a dare and being authentic – what does it mean for you to take on the dare of BEing yourself? For me it has been an adventure in getting to know, like and trust myself and it had been something that had been calling me for many years, until I chose to listen to the call.
I love the following quote as it resonated with me about authenticity and courage –
“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” ~ Maya Angelou
