Permission Granted – Say YES to Yourself!

JT - As I say yes to life, life says yes to me! - Louise Hay

Just recently I wrote about Permission to Love. It continues to spark deeper thoughts/beliefs for me around permission (especially where it started) and curiosity around if there is another way to live (i.e. by following our heart, trusting ourselves and not waiting for permission?).

Remember That Young Child?

Do you remember a time when you were free-er and happier than what you are now? Do you remember a time when you thought you could achieve anything? What happened, when did you stop believing and dreaming?

  • When was the day, month or year?
  • The time?
  • Where were you?
  • Who were you with?

Maybe you remember some of those details or maybe you don’t – either way is OK. Generally these things take time and over the years we begin to be conditioned. We have been conditioned in life through many ways –

  • sport,
  • school,
  • experiences,
  • systems and structures (i.e political and environmental)
  • rules,
  • ours and other people’s expectations, and
  • workplaces.

A little bit like the following clip from Alan Watts ~ Music and Life.

Permission Granted – Say YES to Yourself!

The good news is it doesn’t have to be this way and it is not too late to start saying YES to yourself. Saying YES to –

  • YOU – that gift and talent that is buried inside that lights you up;
  • Being responsible, taking full ownership and accountability for your life;
  • Starting that project or business you dream of;
  • Identifying your goals, values, dreams and vision for your life and then start taking conscious action;
  • To your worthiness, talents, skills, capabilities and value in this world;
  • Questioning and inquiring in to your life and living the truth of who you are;
  • Accepting people for who they are and not trying to change what other people think of you; and
  • Surrounding yourself with people who lift you up and inspire you.

Where Do You Start?

Just start with where you are at. As Lao Tzu says ~ “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” You don’t have to know all of the answers to start, you just have to commit and take the first step. Deep down inside you know what you need to do, you just have to learn to trust your own voice/heart wisdom and not the inner critic.
