20 Quotes to Start to Inspire Body Acceptance
The past few days I have had a number of conversations about body acceptance. I imagine the conversations have been linked to me breaking my toe a few days ago, however I also know it goes much deeper than that (and I will elaborate further on that later – here it is). These conversations inspired me to add the following 20 quotes to start to inspire body acceptance on the journal 🙂
20 Quotes to Start to Inspire Body Acceptance
I hope the following quotes start to inspire you to move towards accepting your body as it is now –
- “Stop trying to fix your body, it was never broken.” – Eve Ensler
- “You are not a mistake. You are not a problem to be solved. But you won’t discover this until you are willing to stop banging your head against the wall of shaming and caging and fearing yourself.” ~ Geneen Roth: Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything
- “If you don’t love it, don’t eat it, and if you love it, savor it.” ~ Evelyn Tribole
- “Diets are the best way of confusing your metabolism for the rest of your life. Just be you and get on with it.” ~ Emma Thompson
- “You have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” ~ Louise Hay
- “Your body hears everything your mind says.” ~ Naomi Judd
- “When we’re awake in our bodies and sense, the world comes alive. Wisdom, creativity, and love are discovered as we relax and awaken through our bodies.” ~ Tara Brach
- “A cultural fixation on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty but an obsession about female obedience.” ~ Naomi Wolf
- “To love yourself as you are is a miracle, and to see yourself is to have found yourself, for now. And now is all we have, and love is who we are.” ~ Anne Lamott
- “I accept my body. I accept how I am and make the best of what I am given.” ~ Kate Winslet
- “When you believe without knowing you believe that you are damaged at your core, you also believe that you need to hide that damage for anyone to love you. You walk around ashamed of being yourself. You try hard to make up for the way you look, walk, feel. Decisions are agonizing because if you, the person who makes the decision, is damaged, then how can you trust what you decide? You doubt your own impulses so you become masterful at looking outside yourself for comfort. You become an expert at finding experts and programs, at striving and trying hard and then harder to change yourself, but this process only reaffirms what you already believe about yourself – that your needs and choices cannot be trusted, and left to your own devices you are out of control.” ~ Geneen Roth: Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything
- “Healthy emotions come in all sizes. Healthy minds come in all sizes. And healthy bodies come in all sizes.” ~ Cheri K. Erdman
- “Don’t change your body to get respect from society. Instead let’s change society to respect our bodies”. ~ Golda Poretsky
- “I’m not going to sacrifice my mental health to have the perfect body.” ~ Demi Lovato
- “Each individual woman’s body demands to be accepted on its own terms.” ~ Gloria Steinem
- “No diet can substitute for the wisdom of your body.” ~ Brooke Castillo
- “The scale can only tell you what you weigh; not who you are.” ~ Steve Maraboli
- “Lighten up on yourself. No one is perfect. Gently accept your humanness.” ~ Deborah Day
- “When a woman becomes her own best friend life is easier.” ~ Diane Von Furstenberg
- “When we give up dieting, we take back something we were often too young to know we had given away: our own voice. Our ability to make decisions about what to eat and when. Our belief in ourselves. Our right to decide what goes into our mouths. Unlike the diets that appear monthly in magazines or the thermal pants that sweat off pounds, unlike a lover or a friend or a car, your body is reliable. It doesn’t go away, get lost, stolen. If you will listen, it will speak.” ~ Geneen Roth: Breaking Free from Emotional Eating
