What’s Your Choice – BEing Empowered or Disempowered?

JT - Your own words are the bricks and mortar of the dreams you want to realize. Your words are the greatest power you have. The words you choose and their use establish the life you experience

Today I wanted to share about BEing empowered and disempowered and recognising the choices within those two spaces.

Why? Because the past few weeks I have started having weekly groups. Due to the Pandemic, I was unable to run the mindful movement class I was running, so after one of the ladies asked me what I would do, I decided to a weekly online well-being class. This class evolved in to an online womxn’s circle and now Mindful Hearts Growth Haven.

I changed the title for a couple of reasons. However in particular, in relation to the many conversations I have had with people who are afraid, worried and / or doubting themselves. Yes, they want to make changes in their work, health, life and follow their heart, however they are just not sure where to start.

Trust me, I know what it is like. I have been there. I also still have days when I am challenged. Which is why I do and will continue to do my own inner work and question the places in my life where I am feeling challenged and disempowered. What do I mean be disempowered?

Disempowered or Living Below the Line…

For me, being disempowered means living below the line. It is recognising you have the power to change you and the results in your life. For me, living below the line essentially means where I am giving my power away to other people and external situations. It is –

  • Blaming others for my situation,
  • Making excuses,
  • Living in denial, and/or
  • A sense of entitlement.

Essentially these show up as beliefs, actions and feelings that I can then work with and shift. Yes, it can be challenging and to see where I have done this in my life, however more and more I am reconnecting to the power within me and living above the line.

Empowered and Living Above the Line…

Living above the line is about –

  • Taking ownership of your life,
  • Being accountable for it, and
  • Being responsible.

It is recognising you have the power to change you and the results in your life. Yes sometimes this is easier said than done (especially when you have had challenging situations occur in your past), however it is possible and is far better than living below the line.

What’s Your Choice – BEing Empowered or Disempowered?

Now you have seen what BEing empowered and disempowered means, what choice are you going to make?

How Can You Identify If You Are Living Above the Line?

Next time you start a project or activity at work or home, ask yourself –

  • Are you ready to take ownership of the project entirely?
  • Are you ready to do your best and make yourself accountable for the quality of work you produce? and
  • Are you going to hold yourself responsible for the end product?

For me, one of the most challenging parts of living above the line is acknowledging when things don’t go the way I had hoped. However, that is also my responsibility, which then provides a great opportunity for personal growth!

Over to You…

What’s your choice – BEing empowered or disempowered in your life? Choosing to live the life of your dreams and as Henry David Thoreau has been reported as saying –

“I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavour.”
