Commitment – It Starts with a Decision…
If you have been reading my journal, you may have seen in January I shared 100 things I wanted to do in 2015. My 100 Things List was a commitment to myself.
Number 73 on my list, I promised to get to know myself better and become my own best friend.
Why?
Because I know if I can do that with complete truth/honesty, self-respect, courage, compassion and commitment, I will be able to share my gifts with the world whole-heartedly (yes, some days are easier than others, however I can see I may have something to share now).
Then as life has it, a couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Promise or Pay (this no longer exists, however I tweaked the post)). I really liked their concept and subsequently chose to make a public promise with them and take my commitment one step further.
So What Is My Promise?
My promise –
I promise to be my own best friend or pay $100 to NASCA by December 31, 2015.
Yes I have decided to share this promise publicly and in a bit more depth as it may inspire other women to become their own best friends as well. I also indicated that I will pay $100 to NASCA if I don’t follow-though.
Are you Ready to Give Yourself Permission and Commit to You?
If you are ready to commit, what are you going to commit to?
Maybe it is –
- Starting that art or cooking class?
- Learning a new language?
- Enrolling in university?
- Re-connecting with a friend or family member?
If you are ready to commit, find a journal or something to write on. Then write –
- I commit to …
- By (insert date) ….
Or if you choose to make it public and add money to your commitment, you can go to Promise or Pay? All you do is –
- Go to Promise or Pay
- Create an account
- Choose a Promise – I promise to ______ or pay $___ to charity.
- Get support.
Yes – it is simple!
How Am I Committing to Becoming My Own Best Friend?
I am –
- Giving myself permission to say YES to me
- Being honest and truthful with myself (even in the hard times)
- Reconnecting with my intuition and learning to trust myself
- Saying Yes AND No when I mean it!
- Getting to know myself and MY dreams
- Knowing my essential needs and requirements to survive
- Being aware of my finances and spend money in line with my needs
- Allowing myself to let go of negativity, gossip and comparison
- Breaking up with fear and unworthiness
- Removing clutter and simplifying my life
- Giving up perfectionism and people pleasing
- Learning to take care of myself and maybe one day even love myself
Remember –
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”
~ William H. Murray.
